Imphal, May 14 2015 :
A rally was taken out here on Thursday by the CPI Manipur unit and its Struggle Committee registering a protest against the Prime Minister Narenra Modi headed Government's controversial Land Acquisition Ordinance.
The State unit of Communist Party of India alleged that the BJP-led NDA Government is trying to kill all poor farmers by introducing such a land bill.
The protest rally kicked-off from the Irawat Bhavan and congregated at the Iboyaima Shanglen in Palace Compound where a meeting was held.
Manipur CPI Secretary Dr M Nara and Struggle Committee chairman N Mangi, among others, took part in the demonstration.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Nara informed that the protest was in line with the decision taken during the 22nd Party Congress of CPI held at Puducherry from March 25-29 .
He said the same protest against the Modi Government's land bill was being staged across the country.
Dr Nara stated that the NDA partners like the Shiva Sena, Lok Janshakti Party and Akali Dal have already shown stiff opposition to the bill.
The CPI leader demanded that the Land Acquisition Act in which certain amendments were made in 2013 should remain implemented as per the consensus of all political parties.
"The new bill is unacceptable as it aims at giving a free hand to capitalists to take over land against the will of farmers," he added.
