Imphal, May 14 2015 :
United Committee Manipur (UCM) and All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) on Thursday called for calm and restraint in the State in the aftermath of the killing of two labourers by Kuki Revolutionary Front (KRF) on May 10 .
The Mapao Khullen killing had been carried out by the militant outfit KRF and that this incident must not be considered as a 'communal act,' UCM president Johnson Elangbam told journalists at committee office here.
He said the State Government should punish all culprits quickly, adding violent incidents are taking place over the killing.
Johnson added that one person has been killed and several others injured during the strike in Patsoi area on Thursday.
"I appeal to the people to stop flaring up communal tension and spreading rumours," he said.
He said a UCM team visited all injured persons now undergoing treatment at RIMS.
"Let's live together in peace and harmony" .
AMUCO advisor KT Rahman also spoke to the journalists at the UCM office.
He echoed the appeal made by Johnson.
Rahman said KRF, a signatory to suspension of operation (SoO), was solely responsible for the killing of two labourers.
He cited that militant groups under SoO agreement have unleashed violence against people on many occasions.
"This time they have killed two people.
Such groups should revoke the truce," he added.
He added that the Government should not remain tight-lipped when militant groups under truce are committing excesses against civilians.
Rahman reiterated that the Mapao Khullen killing was carried out by some individuals.
"We must maintain peaceful co-existence by preventing communal tension" .
