Syam Sharma receives 'Jewel of Manipuri Cinema Award'

Renowned Manipur Filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma on Thursday received the "Jewel of Manipuri Cinema Award" from the State Chief Minister O Ibobi at a glittering function organised by Film Forum Manipur and Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) at the latter's auditorium.
O Ibobi who was also the Chief Guest of the award function in his address said that steps were being taken for the establishment of a film institute in the State after holding due consultation with experts.
He said that a team from the Centre has visited the State for assessing the viability of establishing a film institute.
However, the Centre was yet to convey its final decision so far though the Union Government had already decided to establish a film institute in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Chief Minister said that even if the Centre fails to take any decision on setting up a film institute in Manipur, the State Government will pull in all resources and consult experts and take a decision.
The function's Guest of Honour and Secretary Art and Culture K Radhakumar said conferring the award to ace Manipuri filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma was a step in the right direction.
He opined that conferring the award before the demise of the maestro was correct approach to acknowledge his contributions.
He also reminded that Syam Sharma was a diligent and good teacher.
Film Forum Manipur Chairman L Surjakanta presided over the award giving ceremony.
Those who were present on the occasion include MSFDS Secretary Dr Sushila Devi and a host other dignitaries and personalities from the film world.
