Imphal, May 14 2015 :
A mass rally was taken out today from Irabot Bhavan to Palace Compound under the aegis of CPI, Manipur State Council against BJP Government's land acquisition ordinance.
After arriving at Lamyanba Shanglen, the protesters held a public meeting there.
Speaking at the meeting CPI leader Dr Nara noted that the Modi Government has been planning to develop 100 smart cities across the country with the objective of boosting the country's manufacturing sector.
The BJP-led Government is only interested in profit and they don't share any empathy with the poor peasants and workers as evidenced in the Government's plan to give a free hand to big corporate houses to set up manufacturing units in the country.
For this, they have started giving away several lakh acres of agricultural land to corporate houses at nominal prices.
In order to facilitate easy acquisition of land, the BJP Government has been running from pillar to pillar to get the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill 2015 passed by the Parliament, Dr Nara said.
Taking advantage of the greater number of MPs, the Amendment Bill was forcibly passed in the Lok Sabha on March 10 this year.
The Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill 2015 should be opposed tooth and nail if the fundamental interests of peasants should be safeguarded, Dr Nara asserted.
He also urged the NDA Government to repeal the infamous AFSPA from Manipur and ensure that the National Food Security Act is implemented in letter and spirit.
Other CPI leaders namely N Mangi, L Thoiren and Laishram Sotinkumar were also present at the meeting.
