Failure of leaders pointed out

Hmar Inpui General Headquarters former president Joseph Hmar has blamed the failure of leaders to discharge their duties and responsibilities in time for the May 3 violence which will remain a tragic and ugly chapter in the long history of Manipur.
Speaking at the 29th Manipur Integrity Day observation held today at Kwakeithel under the aegis of AMUCO, Joseph Hmar said that all sections of people have been suffering for over three years owing to the leaders' failure to discharge their duties and tread the right path when the violence broke out.
Saying that Manipur is slowly limping back to the path of normalcy and peace, Joseph Hmar appealed to all the communities to work collectively toward restoration of complete peace and normalcy in the State.
"Let's forgive and forget the past and walk hand in hand on the path of peace and harmony", he said.
"Peace has started returning in the State.
That is why I can come to Imphal and speak on a public platform without any fear or apprehension", he added.
He said that he came to Imphal earlier too but could not speak on any public platform.
Joseph Hmar said that he met and talked with many Meitei CSO leaders at Guwahati on restoring normalcy and peaceful coexistence of all communities in Manipur.
Following concerted efforts, communal harmony has been restored between Hmar people of Pherzawl district and the people of neighbouring Jiribam district, he said.
Noting that the last three years will remain a tragic and ugly chapter in the history of Manipur, Joseph Hmar appealed to all communities to learn a lesson from this tragic chapter and see that such conflicts never happen again in the future.
He also called upon all communities to come together and work collectively to make Manipur a leading State in the North East region and other regions of India.
Because of the protracted crisis, common people in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi have also been suffering extremely and they yearn for peace and normalcy, Joseph Hmar said.
He also called upon all communities to stop hurling allegations and blaming one another in media, social media platforms and panel discussion programmes of TV channels.
He said that the Hmar community is moving on the path of peace and normalcy.
Thadou Inpi Manipur leader Michael Lamjathang said, "AMUCO has been taking a leading role in protecting the integrity of Manipur handed down to us by our ancestors" .
The Thadou community is always committed to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
However Kuki narco-terrorists who came from other places have been challenging the integrity of Manipur, he said.
With indigenous communities of both the hills and the valley coming together to safeguard the integrity of Manipur, peace and normalcy are limping back in the State, Michael said.
There were violent conflicts between Kuki and Hmar in 1960, Kuki and Thadou in 1992, Kuki and Naga in 1993, Kuki and Paite (Zomi) in 1997, Kuki and Meitei in 2023 and Kuki and Naga again in 2026, he pointed.
Michael Lamjathang then called upon all sections of people to identify those Kuki terrorists who have been consistently scheming to ignite communal conflicts with different communities in the State.
Naga People's Union Imphal executive member Arang Zatek Chiru prayed that the widespread violence which broke out on May 3, 2023 may never happen again in the future.
