JD-U candidates bat for development, fair contest

Imphal, February 14 2022: Janata Dal United (JD-U) candidates in different assembly constituencies, who had their flag hoisting ceremonies on Monday, called upon the people for a united stand against muscle and money power as well as for contributing their mite in bringing developmental changes for a better future by supporting the party in the ensuing state assembly elections 2022.Interacting with media on the sidelines of the flag hoisting ceremony held at her Yaiskul Janmasthan residence on Monday, JD-U candidate in Yaiskul AC Thounaojam Brinda said that a firm stand by the public can easily defeat muscle and money power.

The ensuing election will be the battle between truth and money power.

Truth comes from within the heart and considering the public support she is getting, she has firm belief that truth will triumph this time in Yaiskul AC, she said.

Stating that it is a good sign to see several women candidates in the 2022 election, Brinda said that such situation could certainly help in empowering women but what the state need is good politicians.

She appealed to the people of the state to support good women candidates.

Maintaining that the existing model of governance is reversing the developmental pace, she stressed the need for reconstruction of the governance and economic model.

Agriculture could be the foundation of a viable economic model for the state through which poverty could be alleviated and living standard of the people could be uplifted, she said and thanked her supporters, who are standing for her without any greed for money.

Meanwhile, JD-U candidate for Uripok assembly constituency Khumbongmayum Suresh said that the party will play a major role in forming the next government in the state.

Speaking at his flag hoisting ceremony held at his residence at Iroishemba on Monday, Suresh accused past MLAs of the constituency of doing nothing for development of the constituency.

The emerging trend of election is in a complex situation and it is high time the public play their part in choosing the right candidate who could fulfil their dreams for a better Uripok AC.

On the other hand, JD-U candidate in Thangmeiband AC MLA Khumukcham Joykisan asked the people of his constituency to decide whether they want their elected representative to dance to the tune of Thongju or act independently for their welfare.

Addressing a public meeting held at Nagamapal Kangjabi community hall after his flag hoisting ceremony held at his residence at Khoyathong on Monday, Joykisan said that the candidate put up by the BJP in Thangmeiband AC is carrying out his campaign on the strength of Thongju MLA Th Biswajit and it clearly shows that the BJP candidate will follow the advice of Thongju MLA once elected.

As a candidate, he should contest the election on his own vision, aim and objective as well as by challenging the sitting MLA.

In every election, Jyotin Waikhom (BJP candidate) relies on MLAs of other constituencies, he said and added that the public should ask if he is contesting the election on his own term or not.

He is also openly saying that he will follow Biswajit instead of chief minister N Biren and party president A Sharda, Joykisan said.

There are also reports of the BJP candidate offering Rs 30,000 to several families to buy their votes as if the voters are commodities.

The public should understand what will be their future if such candidates win the election.

He (Jyotin) could have used those money in helping the public during the Covid-19 pandemic if he was sincere in serving the public.

It is time the people of Thangmeiband teach such candidates the right lesson, he said.

During the current term, he could not complete road renovation projects due to rainfall and Covid-19 pandemic.

The government is not releasing bills for the road projects and as a result, he is using his own money to acquire bitumen for completing the projects.

However, the BJP intending candidate reported the matter to works minister, who in turn scolded the contractors for carrying out the work.

Such mentality clearly shows that the BJP candidate does not care for the welfare of the people, he said while accusing Jyotin Waikhom and minister Biswajit of interfering in development works of Thangmeiband AC.

At the same time, BJP is threatening residents of Langol Tarung area by telling them that they are staying in reserved forest areas and they would be evicted if they do not vote for BJP.

The party is also threatening non-local population in Thangal Keithel area and he has evidences of such heinous acts of BJP, Joykisan said and added that he will always stand for the minority communities and they do not need to fear from such threats.

On the other-hand, the sitting MLA pledged to upgrade the Gurukul junior high school in the constituency to a model school to provide the best possible educational facilities to students of Thangmeiband.

Flag hoisting ceremony of JD-U candidate in Singjamei assembly constituency Ngangbam Robert was also held at his residence at Singjamei Chingamathak on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Robert assured of developing Singjamei as a model constituency through various centrally sponsored schemes and also uplifting the socio economic condition of the people of the AC.

He also maintained that Singjamei will witness close contest between JD-U and Congress with BJP taking the backseat.
