Culture, religion soul of a community: MLA Arunkumar

Asserting that culture and religion are the soul of a community, Wangkhei MLA Th Arunkumar said that without these two a community cannot survive in the world.
Speaking as chief guest at the presentation of classical dance production 'Geet Govinda' of Sangeet Kala Sangam (SKS) at its Khurai Lamlong Keithel auditorium on Wednesday, the MLA reminded all concerned that art, culture and sports are parts of the state's identity and he has been making relentless contribution in these fields.
Despite the importance of art and culture for the state, there is lack of initiatives in these fields, Arunkumar opined while adding that he will discuss the matter with the chief minister to explore areas where the government can contribute further.
He also lauded SKS for its initiative in promoting art and culture of the state and expressed elation that the building of the institute has been constructed through contributions made by art lovers.
Noting that the auditorium is in need of repairing, the MLA conveyed his desire to make personal contribution for the institute with priority on construction of a toilet.
SKS president N Babuton presided over the event, which was also attended by JNMDA director P Bilash, JNMDA retired pradhan guru and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee A Tombinou Devi, and Manipur University professor and Sahitya Akademi awardee K Shantibala as guests of honour.
A Tombinou and K Shantibala were honoured by presenting gifts on the occasion.
Later, artistes of SKS presented ' Geet Govinda' .
