Imphal, March 29 2023:
Taking strong exception to the scuffle that broke out between two groups of people in Kangpokpi, at least three Liangmai organisations have urged the State Government to arrest all the culprits involved in vandalising a JCB excavator, a two wheeler vehicle and alleged violence against the people of Konsakhul.
The organisations are Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur (LNKR-M) or Liangmai Student Union; Eastern Liangmai Naga Chief & Chairman Association (ELNCCA) and Ahangrok Chief & Chairman Association (ACCA) .
ELNCCA and ACCA, while condemning the alleged act of Leilon villagers and Leimakhong police, asked the State Government to book all the culprits and suspend the police officers who allegedly assaulted the villagers.
They said that they will exercise their democratic rights and launch an agitation if the Government ignores their demands.
According to the two Liangmai bodies, on March 26 at around 7.30 pm, D Lungengbou, s/o D Dirangbou and Ch Rocky, s/o (L) Ch Achun, both from Konsaram (Konsakhul) were assaulted by Leilon Vaiphei villagers while returning from Leimakhong on a two wheeler (Scooty) .
They continued that the Scooty has also been torched.
Moreover , a JCB excavator owned by one Edal Singh of Singjamei was vandalised on the same day and at the same place, they claimed and alleged that a group of tourists coming to Konsakhul waterfall and some pilgrims coming to Kounu Leirembi were also stopped and harassed at Leilon village without any reason.
"Sadly, the police officers/personnel deployed at the area were from a particular community which unfortunately has a biased attitude towards the Konsa-ram villagers," they claimed.
The Liangmai organizations then said that more than 30 people were badly injured while 2 are in serious condition.
Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur (LNKR-M) or Liangmai Student Union has urged Chief Minister N Biren Singh to arrest all the culprits involved in vandalising a JCB excavator and burning down a two wheeler vehicle.
The Liangmai student body also urged the Chief Minister to arrest all the culprits who allegedly abducted and assaulted 'innocent' civilians.
Claiming that the police were also involved in assaulting the 'innocent' civilians, LNKR-M further urged the Chief Minister to suspend the 'erring' Officer in-Charge and other police personnel of Leimakhong police station.
The student body also demanded compensation for all the losses incurred in the incident.
Lastly, the LNKR-M urged the Chief Minister to 'acknowledge the rights of Konsakhul people' and deliver justice at the earliest.
