Imphal, March 29 2023:
Two prominent Liangmai associations have threatened to resort to stern forms of agitation if the state government fails to book all the "perpetrators" involved in vandalising a JCB excavator, a two-wheeler and other acts of violence meted out to the villagers of Konsakhul.
"We strongly condemn such heinous crimes and savage acts perpetrated by Leilon villagers and police officers of Leimakhong police station in our area," Eastern Liangmai Naga Chief & Chairman Association (EL-NCCA) and Ahangrok Chief & Chairman Association (ACCA) said, while urging the state government to book all the culprits, and suspend police officers or else "we will exercise our democratic rights and intensify agitation in our areas" .
According to the two Li angmai bodies, on March 26, 2023, around 7:30 pm, D Lungengbou, son of D Dirangbou and Ch Rocky, son of (late) Ch Achun, both from Konsaram (Konsakhul), were brutally assaulted by Leilon Vaiphei villagers while both of them were returning from Leimakhong on a Scooty (MN01AC5485) .
The Leilon villagers also attempted to murder them and the two-wheeler was burnt to ashes without any reason or provocation, the Liangmai associations alleged.
The two bodies further claimed that a JCB excavator owned by one Edal Singh of Singjamei, Imphal, was also vandalised on the same day and at the same place.
Moreover, a group of tourists while coming to Konsakhul waterfall and some pilgrims coming from Imphal for the purpose of pilgrimage to Kounu Leirembi were also stopped and harassed at Leilon village without any reason.
"Sadly, the police officers/personnel deployed in the area were from a particular community which Unfortunately has a biased attitude towards the Konsaram villagers," they also said.
The Liangmai organisations further conveyed that more than 30 people were badly injured and two people are in serious condition and presently hospitalised at Raj Medicity, Imphal.
