Imphal, March 29 2023:
At a time when drives are on to detect illegal immigrants, names of four Kukis suspected to be from outside the State have been found listed as beneficiaries of PMJAY from Chanam Sandrok in Keirao Assembly Constituency.
PMJAY, short for Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is a healthcare scheme, dubbed the world's largest, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018 .
The PMJAY health card is issued to people holding the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration card and it provides health benefits of upto Rs 5 lakh.
Now, what is interesting is that Chanam Sandrok is a Meitei village in Keirao Assembly Constituency and it has no Kuki residents as per the locals.

Bizarrely enough, the names--Hlowncheu Lalramdinliana Kuki, Hlowncheu Liandungnungi Kuki, Hlowncheu Malsaungal Kuki and Hlowncheu Zairemkungi Kuki were found listed as beneficiaries of the PMJAY from 6/36 polling station, Sandrok Chanam.
They were listed in the beneficiary list bearing identification number 700400180000006200038 .
As to how their names have surfaced in the beneficiary list of the PMJAY health card in Chanam Sandrok of Keirao Assembly Constituency, it is suspected that some 'elements' may have inserted them in the list of AAY families in the 2011 socio economic census and apparently also in the voters' list of the 6/36 polling station of Chanam Sandrok.
It is also reported that the names of the four Kukis were earlier detected in the voters' list of the said polling station in 2017 during verification for voter rationalization and subsequently, the Election Commission had removed them from the voters' list.
Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei, Chairman of the Planning and Development Authority (PDA) who is also MLA of Keirao Assembly Constituency said that while the Constituency is inhabited by many communities, there are no Kuki residents.
The Constituency is inhabited by Meetei/Meitei, Muslim, Maring, Kabui, Tangkhul and Chiru community, but no Kukis, he said.
He stated that the names of the Kukis were first detected and removed during the voter rationalization that was conducted after the Assembly elections in 2017 .
The MLA said he has suspicion that some people with hidden agendas might have included their names in the 2011 socio economic census.
Even though the names were removed from the voters' list in 2017, they have once again surfaced in the list of the PMJAY beneficiaries.
This ought to be a deliberate deed of some persons, he said, adding such actions may have disastrous consequences for the indigenous population.
