A meeting of the Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) which was convened today resolved to put in service nine more semi-low floor buses along three different routes of Imphal area with effect from June 14 on trial basis.
The work for commencement of services of these nine buses has also been assigned to the Transport Director and the DSP of Traffic Police.
The meeting of UMTA was held at the office of Transport Minister Kh Ratankumar at 3 pm today.
Presided over by Minister Ratankumar, the meeting minutely discussed issues related to inability of the department concerned to properly commence the service of semi-low floor buses provided under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) in the state.
Accordingly, it was decided to press nine more semi-low floor buses into service and diversify the routes in Imphal area with effect from June 14 on trial basis.
The three routes where the JNNURM buses would ply are from Canchipur to Mantripukhri; Heijigang to Malom and from Heijigang to Khurai Lamlong.
This would be in addition to the two buses already in service through Paona and Thangal bazaar of Khwairamband azar.
After the meeting, Transport Minister Kh Ratankumar along with the members of UTLA went to inspect the semi-low floor buses stationing at MSRTC Complex.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the inspection, Minister Ratankumar said that although the semi low buses have been brought to the state, they have been laying unused.
This is due to the fact that no private firms have shown interest to operate the service of these buses in spite of repeated tenders called.
So, the state government has decided to start the service in three different routes on trial basis starting from June 14.There will be three buses plying along each route.
The fares would vary according to the distance.
Rupees 5 will be charged from passengers travelling from Canchipur to Babupara and Rs 10 for distance beyond that.
