Imphal, March 15 2022:
While denouncing the statements made by new Lamsang AC MLA Sorokhaibam Rajen, NPP Lamshang Block Committee president A Ibohal has demanded the MLA to retract his statements, failing which the ration cards all 14,785 voters who voted for NPP in the recent polls, will be returned to the DC concerned.
Addressing a press meet at the Lam dong Mayai Leikai residence of NPP candidate P Sumati Devi on Tuesday, Ibohal denounced MLA Rajen's statements wherein the MLA said that people of Lamsang who voted for NPP had sold away their rights and will not be receiving any government benefits during the next 5 years.
"Whether the people voted for the MLA or not, the statements are shameful considering he has thoroughly embarrassed the people of Lamsang.
The Right to Vote is a basic fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution of India, while the Right to Equality means equal distribution of benefits.
However, the MLA's words are that of an immature child.
A person's character and worth is shown by his actions and his way of using words shows his level of education.
Thus, the MLA's statements have clearly shown how educated he is, while his threats are hilarious as these rights are something which he cannot deprive the people of," the president remarked.
Ibohal then said that of the 59 MLAs who were sworn-in on Monday, 7 are NPP MLAs.
As such, one can only wonder why the Lamsang MLA was afraid of confronting the 7 MLAs and warning the people that they would not receive the benefits of the government, as they did not vote for BJP at all.
Terming the MLA's statements as pouring salt on the wounds of the people who are already upset over the result of the elections, Ibohal said that around 14,780 people voted for NPP and as such, questioned if these voters would no longer get NFSA benefits.
If so, the voters have conveyed that they want to return the ration cards to the DC concerned but were pacified by the Committee.
Thus, it is irresponsible of an MLA to make such statements amidst such a situation, he said and demanded the MLA to retract and apologise for the statements to the people by March 20 .
If the MLA fails to do so, then the ration cards of all 14,785 voters who voted for NPP will be returned to the DC concerned and the appropriate legal action will be taken up, along with launching of intense agitations, he cautioned.
NPP candidate P Sumati, who also attended the press meet, said that the elections were not held in a free and fair manner, but it was a show of muscle and money power.
As such, she will not forget the love and support of her supporters, and called for the people's cooperation in carrying out her vision for the constituency.
