Vaccination of 12-14 years begins today

As part of the mass Covid-19 vaccination programme for preventing transmission of the contagious disease, state nodal officer (Immunisation) Dr T Manihar has informed that vaccination of children in the age group of 12-14 years will begin from Wednesday.
Speaking to media persons at Family Welfare office, BT Road here on Tuesday, Dr Manihar informed that the vaccine 'CorBEvax' will be administered to children aged 12-14 years and 'Covaxin' to above 14 years of age.
As the vaccines have already been distributed to various health sectors in the state the vaccination programme for the children will commence with a formal launch function at RD wing, Lamphel at 10.30 am Wednesday, he said.
The nodal officer further informed that the gap between first and second dose of CorBEvax should be 28 days.
Confiding that vaccination target is 1,20,000 beneficiaries of which 60,000 are in the age-group 12-13 years and 60,000 in the group of 13-14 years, he said that the vaccination programme is as per the instruction of ministry to prevent spread of Covid-19 infection and facilitate smooth progress of physical classes.
Dr Manihar further said that preparations for vaccinating the children in schools have been taken up as physical classes have resumed.
As such, he urged parents and guardians to ensure vaccination of their children in said age groups so as to protect them from the virus.
Informing that the government has removed the condition of comorbidities for the 60-plus population for Covid 19 vaccination, he said that people above 60 years can get inoculated without any fear.
