Flash bandh called off after release of detainees

Protesting the arrest of two volunteers of All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) by police during an intense protest staged on Monday in connection with arrest of 10 people from Kshetrigao MLA Noorul Hassan's residence, a flash bandh was imposed in Hatta Golapati area on Tuesday.
The bandh called form early Tuesday morning, however, was called off around 11am following an understanding reached with authorities.
As per reports, large number of people came out on the streets in Hatta Golapati area from early Tuesday morning and started blockading roads by burning tyres and piling up wooden planks and iron rods demanding release of the arrested AMMSO volunteers.
Upon getting report of the street protest and bandh, large number of Imphal East district police arrived and opened the road so as to resume traffic after controlling the protestors.
The bandh, however, was called off after a talk held between AMMSO leaders and Imphal East SP and district administration arrived at an understanding to release the arrested AMMSO volunteers.
Meanwhile, all the individuals arrested from the residence of MLA Noorul Hassan in connection with post-poll violence have been released on bail while two among the five arrested workers of former MLA of the constituency N Indrajit have been remanded to police custody.
According to a police source, all the 10 individuals arrested by Imphal East district police from the residence of Noorul Hassan on Monday for their alleged involvement in post-poll violence were produced before the court through video conferencing on Tuesday and the court released all of them on bail.
On the other hand, two among the five workers of former Kshetrigao MLA Indrajit arrested for their involvement in post-poll violence have been remanded to police custody after all of them were produced before the court through video conferencing.
The court, however, released three of them on bail.
