Interactive session with Kuki INA war veterans held

A public lecture cum interactive session with Kuki INA war veterans was organised by Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Churachandpur at KIC conference hall, Tuibong on Thursday.
The programme was attended by Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi director Dr Om Jee Upadhyay; Osaka University of Commerce, Japan; Kshetra Sangathan Mantri (Northeast States) and Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojna Akhil Bharatiya Sampark pramukh Hemanta Dhing Majumder; Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti, Assam Prant general secretary Dr Subhajit Choudhury and retired MFS Robert Sheilam Haokip as special guests.
Out of over 600 Kuki freedom fighters, who joined Indian National Army (INA) in fighting against the Allied Powers, eight of them who are still alive were felicitated on the occasion by the dignitaries.
Later, the war veterans Lunkhoson Kuki, Sankhohen Kuki, Tongkholun Kuki, Paojang Kuki, Helkhopau Kuki, Khuppao Kuki, Doulam Dimngel Kuki and Ngamkholun Kuki shared their memories of the war.
The event also featured gallery display of the contributions made by Kukis/INA in defending the independence of India.
Apart from general public, members of Kuki Research Forum, Gauhati University, Department of History Dr DL Haokip; Manipur University Department of History Dr Sheikhohao Kipgen and Dr Jangkhomang Guite also attended the event.
It may be mentioned that under the sponsorship of Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi, a two-day national seminar on INA and the Kukis during the World War - II was held on April 26 and 27 at Rayburn College, Churachandpur.
