Sentence hearing of women drug peddlers on May 5

Imphal, April 28 2022:
Two women who were arrested with 13 kg opium on July 6, 2019 from Na-chou Lamkhai in Bishnupur district have been convicted by special court (NDPS) judge W Tonen Meitei and the sentence hearing for the two convicted women will be held at the same court on May 5 .
The convicted women are identified as Heva Vaiphei (49) wife of Henthang Vaiphei and Kimkim Haokip (50) wife of Heliri Haokip.
Both the women are from Pangmol village, Sapermaina in Kangpokpi district.
Hearing of the special trial case (NDPS) No 3 of 2021 was held on April 18 at the special judge (NDPS), Bishnupur court and pronounced the order on Thursday.
Police personnel of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) nabbed both Heva Vaiphei and Kimkim Haokip along with 13kg of contraband opium from Nachou Lamkhai on July 6, 2019 .
Accordingly, NAB police station registered an FIR against them under Section 18 (B) of ND & PS Act, 1985 and the trial is being conducted by special judge (NDPS) Bishnupur court since then.
While pronouncing the order, the court said that both Heva Vaiphei and Kimkim Haokip are convicted for abetment and criminal conspiracy under Section 29 of ND & PS Act, 1985.The court also ordered that both the convicted women should be lodged at Manipur central jail, Imphal from Thursday onwards for further proceedings of the case.
The court also directed SP Manipur central jail to bring both the convicted women to the same court on May 5 for sentence hearing.
