Imphal, April 28 2022:
Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) has expressed grief at the recent suspicious death of an individual at a private rehabilitation centre in Wangoi and attributed this unfortunate incident to the lack of guidelines in operating such centres.
In a statement, CADA said that Manipur State Policy on Psychoactive Substances, 2020 clearly states that appropriate guidelines will be prescribed for the proper functioning of private rehabilitation centres which are not funded by the Indian Government.
However, the state administration has yet to act on this statement, CADA maintained.
As the youth of Manipur continue to fall in the trap of drug addiction, more and more private rehabilitation centres are cropping up.
But these centres are not governed by any guidelines and sometimes resort to force in procuring their clients, lack basic amenities and the staff sometimes end up torturing their clients, the statement continued to claim.
CADA asserted that the Govt must be held accountable for these incidents.
