Imphal, September 20 2015:
The National Revolutionary Front, Manipur (NRFM) has called a State wide general strike on September 21 (Monday) in protest against the 'forceful' merger of Manipur with the Indian Union on September 21, 1949 .
NRFM Publicity Secretary Sanajaoba Meitei in a press statement on Monday however informed that religious activities, emergency, media and those who are campaigning against the Merger Agreement will be kept out of the purview of the bandh.
The outfit has claimed that the present scenario in Manipur is a result of the Merger Agreement.
The "colonial" Government of India has completely ruined the identity of the indigenous people during its 66 years of oppressive rule.
NRFM said the armed conflict between Manipur and India is also the byproduct of the 'forceful' merger of Manipur with the Union of India.
The outfit further pointed out that the Merger Agreement is a highly litigious issue as Bodhachandra Maharaj of Manipur was forced to sign the agreement at gun point by the Government of India at Shillong on September 21, 1949 .
