HC admits nine more election petitions

The High Court of Manipur on Monday admitted nine more election petitions against MLAs of eight assembly constituencies and served notice to all the eight respondent MLAs.
Three election petitions were listed for hearing before Justice Ahanthem Bimol's single bench of the High Court of Manipur.
The petitions were filed by Moirangthem Hemanta against Wangjing Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen and others; Heisnam Subhas against Khurai MLA Leishangthem Susindro and five others; and Laitonjam Jayananda against L Susindro and five others.
Three other petitions were was also listed before Justice MV Muralidaran's single bench and they were filed by Ngamthang Haokip against Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen, Kenn Raikhan against Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangsing & six others; and KS Mingyao against Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah.
Further, three more petitions were listed before Justice Lanusungkum Jamir's single bench which were filed by Thangjam Mohendro against Khundrakpam MLA Thokchom Lokeshwar & two others; Awung Shimray Hopingson against Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing; and Kshetrimayum Kennedy against Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar and four others.
All the petitions were hied while challenging the elections of the respondents MLAs of their respective assembly constituencies as member of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on the ground of irregularities in filing nomination papers by the respondents, furnishing wrong information, false statement about their age, educational qualification, and non-disclosure of their asset and liability in their respective election affidavits.
Justice Lanusungkum Jamir after hearing the submission of petitioner's counsels issued notice to MLAs Thokchom Lokeshwar, Leishiyo Keishing and Rameshwar returnable before 30 May and listed the matter for May 30.Justice Ahanthem Bimol issued notices to MLAs Paonam Brojen and Susindro returnable within three weeks and listed the matter for May 30.Similarly, Justice M V Muralidaran issued notices to MLA Haokholet Kipgen returnable before May 25; MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangsing and Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah returnable on or before May 26 and listed the matters for May 26.So far, the High Court of Manipur had admitted 34 election petitions and issue notices to elected representatives of different assembly constituencies.
