Woman forcefully drags to court for marriage

In a dreadful manner, a woman was forcibly dragged to court for marriage by a man, who is a Bengali, in connivance with an advocate and later spread the news that the marriage was solemnised with mutual consent.
The incident took place on January 18, 2012.The man has been identified as Ganesh (26) alias Devkumar s/o Krishnadas of Saiton but presently staying in a rented house at Nagamapal Pukhri Achouba.
The victim is also a Bengali from Imphal area presently pursuing BBA course at Mumbai.
Addressing a press meet in connection with the incident at the office of Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS) here today, mother of the victim narrated that Ganesh worked as a salesman in a shoe shop run by the victims' family at Thangal Bazar in 2006.Since then he has been eyeing to marry her daughter who at that time was reading in Class VII at Nirmalabas School.
She said that Ganesh once called out her daughter from the school and kept her at Mahabali to marry her without the knowledge of the family.
However, the woman was rescued by police following a complaint filed by the family.
The mother also said that Ganesh used to follow her daughter everyday while she was studying Class XI at Kanan Devi Memorial School and threatened her that he will commit suicide and leave a suicide note if she refused to marry him.
Informing that her daughter was forcibly taken from a house in Thoubal district on January 18, 2012 and performed court marriage there in the presence of an advocate identified as Meisnam Jiten of Heirangoithong, the aggrieved mother added that Ganesh was called in the office of FREINDS where he admitted
his notorious act.
Th Manihar, legal advisor of FREINDS, who was also present at the press meet, said that an understanding has been brought and Ganesh was told not to harass the woman anymore.
He stated that legal action will be taken up against Ganesh if he continues to harassing the woman.
