Imphal, June 28 2014 :
The Imphal War Cemetery, Dewlalane being maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission has been encroached upon by some individuals and the State is considering to evict the encroachers.
The cemetery was constructed in 1970 in memory of the soldiers killed in the Imphal chapter of World War-II after an area of 7.90 acres was leased out for 99 years by the State Government.
An area of 0.8 acre has been found occupied by encroachers within the cemetery area and the encroachers are building shops, informed an official source.
Earlier in August 2011, some encroachers were evicted from the war cemetery but certain parts of the cemetery is still left out without any fence.

The Chief Secretary also instructed officials concerned to take up necessary measures so that the case about encroachment into the war cemetery currently pending at Court is disposed off at the earliest.
