Kashi/Naojai incident : Joint declaration issued for truce

Senapati, June 28 2014 : In a positive development, four days after the firing incident which injured two persons and destroyed six houses at Kashi/Naojai, a disputed site located 3 km away from NH-2 Maram Bazaar, the apex tribe Hohos of Mao and Maram tribe have issued a joint declaration to cease all forms of violence today.

According to the joint statutory declaration, until the case is settled by the two Councils, both the disputing villages must cease all forms of violence.

It also said that any defaulter of the said declaration would face actions from the joint Council.

Directives have been issued to both the disputing parties to abide by the declaration and avoid any untoward incident till the matter is resolved by the two tribe Hohos.

The declaration came into effect immediately after it was issued.

The declaration signed by both the tribe presidents namely Chakho Romeo of Mao Union and K Raisong of Maram Union also took serious note of the incident and condemned the prevailing standoff between the Maram Khullen Circle Board and Makhan (Ekhramei) Union.

To prevent any further violence, the District Administration has also issued a prohibitory order at the disputed site - Kashi/Naojai and other sensitive places like Maram, Makhan Khuman and Makhan Center.

Earlier, the frontal bodies like UNC and NWU had also issued statement expressing serious concern over the firing incident and both the bodies called on for an amicable solution and peace be prevailed between the two groups.

The disputed site has been a contentious matter for both the Maram Khullen Circle villages and Makhan Union villages.

The two parties came to a physical face-off which subsequently led the District Administration to intervene into it in order to check the tension.

Last year in March, building up of tensions had been reported following which a curfew was imposed and tribe bodies endorsed by civil bodies attempted to resolve the matter.
