Lamka, June 28 2014 :
The Agriculture Department, Churachandpur distributed about 50 MT of fertilizer to farmers of the district at a rate fixed by the Government as part of its continued efforts to nurture local farmers from subsistence farming to a commercially viable affair.
The fertilizers that arrived from Imphal in two trucks early today was distributed directly to the farmers in bags, 2 for each farmer, without the fertilizer being unloaded at a secondary location or godown.
As there are enough farmers waiting in queue to claim all the stocks, the distribution will continue until and unless the trucks were emptied said the district agriculture officer.
Officials from the Department said this year they manage to receive the subsidized fertilizers on time and they were optimistic that it would help farmers to a great extent.
Last year, the Department received the fertilizers only in August.
The timely arrival this year means the Department has saved its face from the embarrassment they had endured last year.
The district is set to receive around 140 MT of fertilizers in the current season and today's distribution involved only the first shipment that will be arriving at short intervals said officials.
