Imphal, July 29 2022:
Congress party's senior leader and Sugnu MLA Kangujam Ranjit has equated the ruckus caused by members of Bharatiya Janata Yuba Morcha (BJYM) Manipur including setting on fire an effigy of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and kicking the gate of Congress Bhawan, BT Road on Thursday morning while protesting against Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdary's remarks of calling the new President of India Droupadi Murmu "Rashtrapatni", as an invitation to Congress party for war.
However, CM Biren, who is the Leader of the House, did not give any response to the matter brought up by K Ranjit.
Recounting the incident during the Zero Hour of the ongoing Assembly session on Friday, MLA Ranjit drew the attention of the House on the matter so as to prevent the democracy from becoming a joke.
The country has been ruled by different governments, as is in a democracy.
Information technology has also advanced considerably with the development of media and social media.
Thus, BJYM s actions on Thursday of kicking the gate of Congress Bhawan, attacking the armed personnel guarding the Bhawan with sticks, physical and verbal insults have all been seen by all on social media.
If the government holding power were to do whatever it likes, it is nothing different from a warlike situation, MLA Ranjit said.
He then recounted how the BJYM president had also carried out similar acts on January 26 in front of MPCC gate protesting against the farmers in Punjab who blockaded PM Modi's motorcade.
Such acts, if continued, is an invitation of war to Congress, the MLA cautioned.
Contending that the country follows the rule of law, MLA Ranjit said that if any union ministers make a mistake, they have to go to prison.
Thus, the state government should make it clear that there is a rule of law.
A democracy allows the citizens to protest or burn effigies.
All political parties do it as well.
However, the House leader, who also holds the home portfolio, should make it clear that the rule of law exists and any extreme actions will not be tolerated.
