Imphal, July 29 2022:
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and others have strongly condemned the undemocratic and violent acts carried out by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members in front of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) office on Thursday and demanded punishment of the perpetrators.
According to a CPI-M statement, the violent acts committed by BJYM state unit members led by its president M Barish Sharma in front of MPCC office was against the Constitution and democracy and all those involved particularly Barish Sharma and his accomplices must be arrested and given punishment as per law.
It is the norm of democracy to stage protest meet or express displeasure through media against political policies but committing violent acts at the office of another political party is not only un-civilised but also against the Constitution and democracy, the statement said, adding that such acts should never be repeated.
The CPI-M statement issued by its state secretary Ksh Shanta further said that the BJP government in the state arrest and torture many leaders of opposition political parties or fronts who are against the government and accordingly the government should book M Barish and his accomplishes and award them befitting punishment if the government wants to prove its un-partisan attitude.
Meanwhile, All India Mahila Congress Committee (AIMCC) secretary Kim Haokip also condemned the violent acts committed by BJYM volunteers at the Congress Bhawan and said that such acts were never done by any political party in the past in the state.
She also said that attack at the office of a political party by another political party shows that there is no meaning of democracy under the BJP government and every section of the society should condemn BJP's uncivilised acts.
