Imphal, July 29 2022:
In view of many wild birds foraying into residential pockets in Khangabok area due to shrinkage of their natural habitats with some killed for consumption or injured by poachers, members of Joint Co-ordination Committee on Wildlife & Biodiversity (JCCWB) discussed the issue and also released some injured wild birds after rescuing and providing necessary treatment on Friday.
Leipat Citizens Club handed over a Chokhu, which is a nocturnal bird, and Uren Uthum rescued from houses located under the jurisdiction of the club to JCCWB.
As the birds were injured, they were treated and later released by members of JCCWB accompanied by Moirang Palli post sub inspector Sh Tomchou and his team and members of Leipat Citizen Club, Khangabok at Ikop Pat.
Speaking on the sidelines, JCCWB convenor Romesh Ningthoujam informed that Chokhu birds have now started to foray into houses because of loss of their natural habitat and added that the nature lovers are disheartened to witness failure to effectively implement the Acts and rules framed for protection of wild life.
He urged the people to release birds at a safer place if they find them in their houses or contact the forest department or club/organisation related with wildlife if the birds or animals are injured.
It is impossible for man to live alone without wild animals and birds, he added.
