Truck set ablaze

Imphal, February 20 2018:
A truck engaged in the construction work of tunnel under North East Frontier Railway (NF Railway) was set ablaze by some unidentified miscreants at Marangching, Noney district last night.
A dumper truck loaded with cement was set ablaze near tunnel no 4 (Marangching) and it belonged to Bencer Construction Company, informed a source.
The particular company has been engaged in constructing tunnel nos 1 to 4.Notably, Marangching villagers declared a ban on all National projects since February 16 decrying alleged irregularities in the process of paying land compensation.
Meanwhile, Marangching Khullakpa Namronlung Gondamei was arrested by police this afternoon but he was 'rescued' by villagers when police tried to take him to Imphal at around 6 pm today.
Namronlung was arrested by police at around 1 pm today in connection with setting ablaze a truck.
After his arrest, Namronlung was kept in the custody of Noney police station.
As police tried to take him to Imphal in the evening, Marangching villagers particularly womenfolk blocked the road at three points.
Even as police fired tear gas shells to drive away the villagers, the protesters somehow managed to pull down and take away the Khullakpa, said the source.
The protesters shouted slogans denouncing the Tamenglong DC .
