Imphal, February 20 2018:
In an enterprising endeavor aimed at reaching out to the far flung areas of the remote Sajik-Samtal belt of Chandel district, 39 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) hosted a village chiefs meet at Sugnu today, informed PRO IGAR (S) in a press release.
The purpose of the all encompassing initiative was to sensitize the local population through the village chiefs on the various initiatives undertaken by the Government and make them equal stake holders in the growth story.
Struck by lack of opportunity and awareness, the attendees were apprised about the "Employment Guidance Cell" which has been instituted at each unit level to guide the youth in finding suitable employment opportunities commensurate to their interest.
Furthermore, the institution of 'youth clubs' at each company was highlighted that helps in providing an enabling platform towards education and subsequent employment opportunities, while imparting skill training to the youth in the domain of hospitality, handloom and nursing, it said.
The village chiefs of the border belt were educated in particular, on various plausible and more profitable agri-alternatives of lemon grass, mushroom/cinnamon and spice farming to help shun the illegal and socially damaging poppy cultivation.
The chiefs were further informed about the various Government welfare schemes including PMGAY, Sukanya Samridhi Yojna, Jan dhan Accounts and importance of Aadhaar card.
The event was attended by 232 village chiefs /ward members of the entire 28 Sector Area of Responsibility and presided over by Commander 28 Sector Assam Rifles along with Commandants of Kakching, Sajik Tampak, Sehlon and Joupi Battalions, it continued.
The employment opportunities available in Assam Rifles and Army were adequately emphassised along with the proposals for conducting pre-recruitment training in respective areas.
The event was supplemented with a medical team to look after the gathering, and was followed by lunch, it added.
