Greetings for Patriots' Day extended

Extending heartiest greetings to the people of the State on the occasion ofPatriots ' Day 2015, Governor Dr Syed Ahmed has called upon the people to take a pledge to stand as one against all challenges to the freedom and integrity of the country rising above caste, creed or religion.
Pointing out that on this day 124 years ago the British hung Bir Tikendtraiit and other brave souls for resisting their colonial design, the Governor in his message said that these brave souls made the supreme sacrifice for the freedom of their motherland.
The day will remain of great historical significance to the people of the State as it changed the course of the State's history.
"This day also reminds Us that we only succeed when we stand and work together as starkly evident from the British craft of 'divide and rule' which they effectively used to their advantage," the Governor said.
The Governor wished the observations in the State and also outside the State all success.
Major General VS Sreenivas, IGAR (South) and all ranks of Assam Rifles have also extended their greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion.
In a message, the IGAR (S) said that the day, observed to mark the supreme sacrifice of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General on August 13, 1891, reminds all of the strong sense of patriotism of the brave sons of Manipur.
The IGAR (South) also urged the people of Manipur to come together bearing the same indomitable and unconquerable spirit and stand united to fight against the social evils and insurgency to bring about peace, prosperity and tranquillity in the days to come.
