JCILPS-govt Talks : Inclusion of 'five points' still undecided after 2nd round talk

The crucial second round of talks between Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) and Manipur Government was held on Wednesday.
The meeting began at 3:30 pm and continued till 8:30 pm at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
However, the meeting could not take a final decision on the date for the next round of talks and also whether or not the five-point raised by JCILPS would be incorporated into the proposed bill.
After the meeting, JCILPS announced that next course of action will be decided after consulting with the people if the State Government comes out with a positive response to present a new Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) Bill to protect the
indigenous people.

Talking to media persons in front of the CM's Secretariat, JCILPS Convenor in-charge Khomdram Ratan said the Joint Committee side had insisted on inclusion of its key five-points in the fresh ILPS Bill and consideration of the memorandum as well as the resolutions taken by the public convention held recently.
He also said that Sapam Robinhood's body will not be claimed at this juncture.
The meeting also discussed about the Government's proposed ILPS Bill, he said and announced that the next course of action will be decided after consulting the people if the Government comes out with a workable and acceptable bill to safeguard the indigenous people.
A 20-member delegation, including former Convenor of JCILPS, Ibotombi Khuman and JCILPS Women Wing convenor Lourembam Ongbi Nganbi, attended the meeting.
The Government side was represented by Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy CM Gaikhangam, Council of Ministers and members of the Drafting Committee.
Pro-ILP student leaders freed
The seven students who were arrested by the police during ILPS demand protest were released by the State Government without any condition on Wednesday.
Representatives of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) during the first round of talks with the Government on August 10 had demanded the latter to free the students or else it would skip the next meeting.
Robindro, Somokanta, Suresh, Dhanajit, Kabichandra, Premkanta and Kh Shining were released unconditionally from Sajiwa Central Jail at about 11 am.
Immediately after their release, they visited the residence of Sapam Robinhood at Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai with hundreds of people paying homage to the departed soul.
JCILPS convenor in-charge Kh Ratan received the students at Sagolband.
On the occasion, Ratan said JCILPS was ready for the second round of talks with Government.
