58 FIRs lodged on cases along Imphal-Ukhrul road
Police to HC Directive sought to ensure free movement

Imphal, August 27 2026: Manipur Police have informed the High Court of Manipur that 58 FIRs have been registered in connection with incidents along the NH-202 corridor under Litan Police Station since the outbreak of the Naga-Kuki conflict on February 8, 2026 .

The disclosure was made in a status report filed on August 25 in PIL No.5 of 2026, filed by Ashang Kasar, seeking directions to ensure safe and uninterrupted movement of civilians and essential-service vehicles, particularly between Mahadev and TM Kasom.

The petitioner, through counsel Tungrei Ngakang, alleged incidents including armed attacks, detention of passengers, killings, road blockades, obstruction of traffic and looting along the highway.

According to the police, two cases have been transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), including one involving Kuki victims and another involving Tangkhul victims.

Proceedings are also underway to refer other cases involving scheduled offences under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act to the NIA .

Police further informed the Court that substantial security forces have been deployed along NH-202 for road-opening operations, area domination and convoy escorts.

The deployment under Litan Police Station includes two CRPF companies, nine BSF companies, eight Army/Assam Rifles columns, one platoon and one section of the 6th Manipur Rifles, besides regular police personnel, according to police.

The authorities described NH-202 as a vital supply lifeline connecting Ukhrul and Kamjong with Imphal, particularly the Mahadev-New Heaven stretch.

The petitioner has sought action under Section 6 of the NIA Act, 2008, in relation to several FIRs concerning alleged attacks, killings and disruptions along NH-202 .

The petition referred to incidents including the alleged detention of 21 civilians on March 11, an armed attack that killed two civilians on April 17, and an alleged May 29 ambush on a security convoy escorting FCI trucks and LPG/IOCL tankers.

It also referred to alleged road digging near Shangkhai village, the looting of around 40 vehicles, and the interception and burning of mail bags.

The High Court, noting that related matters are pending before the Supreme Court of India, has granted the petitioner liberty to approach the apex Court for appropriate relief.

The petitioner is now preparing to seek further directions concerning civilian safety, uninterrupted movement and an NIA investigation into the connected incidents.
