Field survey held in flood affected areas

Imphal, August 12 2015:
A medical team led by Imphal West District Malaria Officer N Thoinao carried out a field survey of flood affected areas of the district today.
N Thoinao, who is also the District Nodal Officer of National Vector Borne Diseases Control and Programme, supervised the survey conducted at low lying areas from Sekmaijin to Laphupat Tera.
Five houses at Laphupat Tera Khounou were found inundated by flood water.
A resident, identified as Huirem Biren said that the main problem which they are currently facing is scarcity of drinking water.
He said that the local MLA had distributed 10 kg of rice, a packet of pulses, salt and candle earlier.
Saying that they purify river water using alum for drinking purposes, he urged the concerned to take up special measures to prevent communicable diseases.
DMO and his staff imparted awareness to villagers on water borne diseases and its preventive measures.
The DMO also asked villagers to get alum from nearby PHCs through Asha workers.
He also advised to get their mosquito nets treated with antimalaria chemicals.
Later, the DMO assured the villagers to provide other medical care needs of the affected areas through PHCs.
