Many pledge support to AMUCO's position

Imphal, August 27 2026: Several organisations have come out openly in support of the position adopted by the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) regarding NRC, census and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

AMUCO, All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM), Committee on Human Rights (COHR) and Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister on August 20 .

The memorandum urged the Prime Minister to defer Census 2027 until the security situation stabilises and all areas become fully accessible for enumeration; displaced persons are rehabilitated at their permanent places of residence or a reliable mechanism for counting displaced persons is established and a comprehensive verification mechanism is implemented to address issues related to undocumented immigration and data integrity.

The civil organisations have also demanded annulment of the ongoing SIR exercise.

Expressing strong objection to any attempt to naturalise the citizenship of illegal immigrants by carrying out census exercise amid the prevailing restive situation, the Imphal West District United Clubs' Organisation (IWDUCO), Tiddim Road United Clubs Organisation (TRUCO), Northern united Clubs' Organisation (NUCO), Kakching District United Clubs Organisation (KADUCO) and the all Mayai Lambi Clubs' Organisation have expressed unstinted support to the common position adopted by AMUCO, AMAWOVA, PLMPAM, COHR and MSF .

Separate press releases issued by these organisations said that the legislators must take a concrete resolution during the upcoming State Assembly session to protect the indigenous people.

They asserted that the census exercise and SIR must be conducted only after IDPs are resettled at their native villages.

They demanded that genuine citizens and illegal immigrants must be distinguished at the earliest updating the NRC .
