Special Judge POCSO Imphal East Gaiphulshillu Golmei yesterday convicted 27 years old Thokchom Raja under section 4 of POCSO Act for raping minor on February 9, 2016 and fixed March 16 for the sentence hearing.
The order was announced in an open Court yesterday after it was kept reserved after the final hearing of the trial on February 16 against the convict who is from Toubul Mayai Leikai.
The case was taken up after an uncle of the victim lodged a written complaint to OC Imphal East Women Police Station on February 11, 2016 that on February 9 at around 10 pm the minor victim was kidnapped by the convict to be his wife without consent.
The convict arrested and during the interrogation admitted the charges levelled against him and revealed that he had kidnapped the minor victim and sexually assaulted her on the pretext of elopement and also revealed that he had forcibly sexually assaulted the minor victim in January 2016 before the elopement.
RK Babina SI of Women Police Station Imphal East who is also IO of the case submitted the charge sheet before the Court and charges were under section 4 of POCSO Act on June 13, 2017 .
Convict denied the charges levelled against him and in order to prove the crime committed beyond reasonable doubt before the Court produced 11 prosecution witnesses and a number of documents in support.
Considering the facts and circumstances, the Court convicted Th Raja under section 4 of POCSO Act and fixed March 16 for sentence hearing to announce the quantum of punishment.
