Tree plantation drives, children activities & medical camp held to celebrate World Environment Day

Imphal, June 06 2018: In view of World Environment Day, Khurai AC MLA L Susindro planted tree saplings at numerous Lai Haraobung located under the constituency yesterday, to mark the observation.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sideline of the tree plantation drive, MLA Susindro stated that various types of tree saplings were planted at 15 different Lai Haraobung in the constituency, beginning with Umang Lai Haraobung.

Observing the rapid and drastic climate change, the tree saplings were planted to bring balance to the ecosystem, he added.

He further asserted that the Khurai constituency is prone to floods every monsoon season.

The previous Government constructed small dams above Kongba river at seven different locations, starting from Khundrakpam AC.

This has led to constant flooding of paddy fields, he claimed.

Out of the total seven dams, six have been successfully destroyed considering its consequences, he said while adding that the last remaining dam will also be destroyed soon.

The MLA appealed the locals to extend their cooperation in taking up any projects for the welfare of the people.

Business Excellence Group Manipur also observed the day at Nongpok Sanjenbam by organising medical camp cum drawing competition today.

Lauding the organisers for taking up such enthusiastic activities, Susindro, who was carrying out the tree plantation drive near the area, urged all to adopt a habit of planting double the number of trees which are constantly felled down.

Highlighting the rising plastic pollution and the lack of proper facilities for discarding plastic wastes in the State, he appealed to all the people to use less plastics.

Meanwhile, Business Excellence Group Manipur general secretary Th Hero told the media persons that tree saplings were also planted apart from the organisation of competition and health camp.

The trees were planted with a hope to reduce the imbalance in nature and environment, he added.

With assistance from Iboyaima Hospital and Research Centre, Advanced Hospital and Langol View Clinic, 20 doctors attended to nearly 600 locals from Nongpok Sangjenbam and its surrounding areas.

Comprising of two categories, one from class I to VI and another from class VII to X, the drawing competition was participated by 200 students.

Business Excellence Group Manipur and Langei Group managed the financial expense of the events organsised today, however, the events were more successful with assistance from Manipur Golden Travel Tata Motors among others.
