Imphal, June 06 2018:
A girl with a large hole in the heart which cannot be closed with the largest available device (for non operative device closure) in the market has been successfully closed, in the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Shija Hospitals, recently.
It is one of its kind of surgery performed in the State and the North East region with minimal cosmetic scar and lesser pain and minimal hospital stay.
Meanwhile, another elderly gentleman also underwent an Off Pump Bypass Surgery in the hospital without using the bypass machine and without stopping the heart.
The heart is repaired while it is beating and the patient has got immediate relief and lesser hospital stay.
Such difficult cases are now performed in the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Shija Hospitals and patients can now avail the services without the need of going outside the State.
The above procedures were performed, under highly skilled hands and the state of the art facility available in the hospital, by a team led by Dr Vivek Jawali, Director Cardiac, Fortis Bangalore, India's first Beating Heart and Awake Heart Surgeon and Mid Cab Surgeon along with Dr Sidartha Lukram, Consultant Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon, Shija Hospitals, after 46 Non Operative Device Closure.
Dr Sidartha Lukram said that after the recent successful device closures (closure of holes through a needle prick without surgery) in children under the RBSK, those patients who need surgery can also avail the facilities in the hospital.
Open Heart Surgery for adults are also performed in the hospital.
After introducing the first Endovascular Laser surgery in the State, Dr Sidartha Lukram said that Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (Key Hole Surgery) are in the offering at Shija Hospital.
