Heavy contender Muivanlai Athletics took on FC Zotal today while Lenlai FC faced Korte Brothers SC in a battle of heavyweights before a packed gallery at the maiden edition of Raja Goukhothang Guite Memoriam Tournament held at Lamka Public ground.
In today's pre-quarterfinals match, Lenlai FC, winner of Zomi Namni Football Tournament, once again proved their mettle against Korte Brothers SC led by the combination of Jerry Pulamte, new entrant from NEROCA FC and hitman T Hoakip of FC Zalen.
Immanual Intaote open the account in the 35th minute for Korte Brothers in this high decibel clash much to the chagrin of their opponent but Lanlai side fought hard to eventually found equaliser through a penalty kick that was awarded in the 70th minute due to blunder of handling the ball with his hand by one of Korte's defender.
Boosted by the equaliser, Lenlai continued their attacking play to completely overturned the result to 2-1 in their favour through K Lalrintluanga in the injury time and sailed through the quarter final.
In the second pre-quarter final match, Muvanlai Athletics, who have scripted a convincing win over Zenhang Lamka FC in an earlier match, resume their campaign against throw-in specialist Yaima's FC Zotal with Seiminlen Doungel and Seikhohao Tuboi running high on confidence.
The fiercely contested match drew blank at the end of the first half.
However, Muvanlai finally surged ahead with a goal in the 58th minute when Bedeenpar Maon drew the first blood.
