Cyber MoU

An MoU for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence on Cyber Defence, Cyber Security and Internet Governance at NIT Manipur, Langol, was inked between the institute and Cyber Peace Foundation (CPF), today.
Registrar of NIT, Manipur, RK Lalit and CPF president, Captain Vineet Kumar, officially singed the MoU during a function at the seminar hall of NIT.
The function was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh, NIT, Manipur, Director Professor Goutam Sutradhar, Joint Secretary SN Pradhan and CPF president Captain Vineet Kumar as the chief guest, president, guests of honour and special guest respectively.
Speaking at the function, Dy CM Joykumar opined that mere is a strong need for making the public fully aware about the cyber world and the various forms of cyber crimes and other threats posed to the society through misuse of internet and computer technology, while taking up measures to curb the menace.
He observed that modern devices and technologies are being abused by a larger section of the society and pointed out that the majority of the State's population do not have ample knowledge about modern technology and its usage.
Contending that it is a must to enhance the area of network coverage and improve related infrastructure in the State for effective operation of cyber defence and cyber security works (as well as for internet governance), Joykumar asked the authorities concerned to make people aware about the initiatives that will be taken up and to build up trust on the works that will be carried out.
Goutam Sutradhar opined that the project will provide enormous benefits to NIT, Manipur, particularly to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering thereby ensuring a safe and secure system in various computer and technological related tasks of the institute, including data storage of examination marks and money transactions.
He said that many academic related activities are done through modern technology and computers.
Maintaining that NIT, Manipur has been chosen for the project by the Central Government in recognition of the institute's performance, Sutradhar asked the faculties, staff and students of the institute to grab the benefit and opportunity.
