Imphal, May 14 2015 :
A 25-year-old man, who is currently out on bail regarding a criminal case, has submitted a written complaint to DGP Manipur and SP Imphal East alleging that two police officers had beaten him up badly in the police custody.
According to a source, Chungkham Narendra alias Tomba s/o Ch Suren of Andro Kharam Leikai sought anticipatory bail from the Sessions Court, Manipur East on the ground that he had a reasonable apprehension that he would be arrested on the accusation of having committed a non-bailable offence.
The Court granted an interim bail to Narendra with a direction to appear before the IO of the case when requires.
On May 13, Narendra went to Imphal East Women police station in response to the summon issued to him regarding the criminal case.
On questioning whether he had committed the crime or not, Narendra replied that he had not committed the crime as alleged in the FIR.
After some time, a male police personnel took him inside a room and beat him up.
Narendra was later taken to JNIMS hospital for medical examination.
After the medical examination, he was again taken to the police station and interrogated by two officers - one male and one lady.
As Narendra denied all the allegations levelled against him, the male police officer punched him and thrashed him with a club.
After rounds of torture, Narendra was allowed to go home at around 6 pm, the source said.
Narendra was hospitalised the next day.
Narendra later submitted a written complaint to DGP and Imphal East SP against the two police officers for the custodial tortures meted out to him.
