Imphal, July 24 2013:
All Liangmai Government Employees' Welfare Association (ALGEWA) has appealed the authorities concerned to upgrade Langmei High School at Tamei.
In a press release, President of ALEWA ZN Madenbon stated that Tamei HQ under Tamenglong district serves as an educational centre for many vilages in the vicinity.
There are as many as 12 Govt high schools at present in the surrounding villages however not a single higher secondary school.
This presents an unpractical approach to education in the area.
If the State's education policy stands for what it believes in then serious thought has to be given in this regard.
The inaccessibility and inability under circumstances of being underpriviledged and impoverishment for many young students impede their careers.
Annually thousands of students in the area cleared their matriculation board exams with high hopes of a bright future only to see despair awaiting them, it stressed.
It also stated that only a few privileged students make it to other towns and cities for further studies with the rest becoming drop outs.
Thousands of families with meagre incomes are in no position to send their children to far off towns where better education is being imparted and so their only choice (actually no other option at all) is the kitchen garden in the backyard.
This is becoming a costly affair for the development of family as well as social life.
This feeling of alienation can be overcomed if a higher secondary school is set up in the area, which will change the lives of many bright students whose only impediment is a poor family background and no privilege given, the release said.
