Imphal, June 06 2018:
Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen planted tree saplings during an observation of World Environment Day organised by Corporative Department at its office complex in Lamphelpat today.
Nemcha, while addressing the gathering, exclaimed that everyone should plant trees whenever there is an opportunity or occasion, throughout the year which in turn will make the environment friendlier and healthier.
She believes that healthy environment will hugely contribute in moulding healthy lifestyle and a developed society.
The tree plantation drive, which is the very first event in the history of the Department, was also attended by Principal Secretary Cooperation JC Ramthanga.
The Minister appealed the Department's staff to take utmost care of the trees planted today while exhorting all to take pride in the number of trees planted by them as the same way they take pride in worldly possessions.
Nemcha further stressed that one should keep the environment clean and minimise the rate of polluting while calling upon all to join hands and work towards protecting the environment for the sake of future generations.
It is our responsibility to preserve, protect and sustain the environment, she added.
Taking to media persons, JC Ramthanga stated that people should realise the benefits given by the trees to the human body while urging them to return the favour by planting more trees, considering the rapid depletion of forests and trees in the State.
