Imphal, June 08 2012:
Along with distribution of Dhaniya 748 variety to select/beneficiary farmers, a training programme of agricultural inputs for establishment of model village under IPM/INM (Integrated Pest Management/Integrated Nutrient Management) Technology was held today at the conference hall of All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA), the programme organisers.
The programme held under the theme 'Chingjakta Meepal Tangdaba' was sponsored by Department of Agriculture under the aegis of Ministry of Agriculture, Govt of India.
Additional Chief Engineer (CADA) K Manoranjan Singh and AMPFA president Joy Nongmaithem graced the occasion as the chief guest and functional president respectively.
Top officials of the Agriculture Department and associated departments were also present at the event.
While Agriculture Department officials highlighted procurement/possession of various modern agricultural equipment for convenience of the State's farmer community and periodical distribution of high yielding seeds to the farmers, AMPFA president Joy emphasised on preserving cultivable land.
He cautioned that if an effective mechanism to prevent sale or Government acquisition of agricultural land is not put in place at the earliest the ultimate sufferer would be the common people due to shortage of food.
