Welder hurt in accidental firing

Imphal, January 05 2012:
A welder sustained bullet injuries when a Police Constable who was guarding the office of English daily Imphal Free Press accidentally opened fire at about 8.15 am today.
Welder Athokpam Inaocha alias Robindro (45) of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal was working in an automobile workshop next to the office of the Imphal Free Press along Checkon road when the service carbine of Constable Ashok slipped from his hands and opened fire by itself.
Nabakumar, proprietor of the automobile workshop said that he heard three rounds of shots and all the three bullets hit Inaocha.
Inaocha was hit by bullets on the chest, left hand and leg.
He was rushed to JNIMS and later shifted to Shija Hospital.
Constable Ashok who was involved in the incident has been pulled up by Porompat Police.
Notably, security personnel have been deployed in all media houses based at Imphal after a bomb was planted in the office of a daily on January 2 .
