AMCTA decides to boycott Teachers' Day

Endorsing the call of All India Federation of University & College Teachers' Organisations (AIFUCTO), college teachers of the State under All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA) observed the "Black Day" today.The Nation-wide protest was called by AIFUCTO against the Central Government's inordinate delay in implementing 7th UGC recommendations and providing 100 percent financial assistance for uniform and simultaneous implementation of 7th pay scales.According to a press release of AMCTA, all the college units of the association at different districts both in the hills and valley participated in the protest by wearing black badges and holding meetings at their respective campuses.However, normal classes were not affected.
Today's protest was a historic as the university and college teachers observed in large-scale at their State capitals, it said.
University and college teachers of all North East States also observed the day.
The protest was supported by Federation of Central University Teachers' Association and All India Federation of Retired University & College Teachers' Organisation, the release claimed.In solidarity with the resolution adopted by AIFUCTO to hold a mass Court arrest on September 5 to press the demands, AMCTA has decided to boycott Teachers' Day 2017 celebration on the day.College teachers of the State under AMCTA will not take part in any kind of programmes/functions related to Teachers' Day, it declared.
It may be mentioned that AIFUCTO has been demanding pay scales & service conditions for Temporary/Adhoc/Part time/Guest teachers/Block Grant teachers and self financing teachers and employees; scraping of API and extend dates for participation of Refresher Course/Orientation Course.AIFUCTO has also been demanding graded autonomy to universities and colleges, compulsory NET/SLET/SET for PhD registration, strengthening of UGC and AICTE, consultation with the organisations and other teacher bodies on Education Policy and put an end to commercialization, corporation and centralization of education.
