KSA drops proposed strike

Imphal, August 22 2017:
Following an understanding reached between the Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) and the State Government today, the 48 hours general strike called by the former from August 23 midnight till August 25 midnight has been put off .
State Government officials led by CAF&PD Minister Karam Shyam held a meeting with KSA representatives at the Minister's Old Secretariat office this afternoon .
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, KSA president Moirangthem Lakshman said that the Government team gave positive response to their demands like imposition of no restriction against all forms of democratic agitation, release of all arrested student activists after cancelling FIRs registered against them, protection of indigenous people through a Constitutional safeguard etc.
Following the Government's positive response, the proposed general strike has been put off for sometime, Lakshman said .
KSA will hold another meeting with Chief Minister N Biren on August 25 and discuss reserving eight Assembly segments for indi- genous people and identification of non-locals enlisted in the State's electoral roll and deletion of their names.
The next course of KSA's agitation will depend on the outcome of this meeting.
