Tengnoupal, December 11 2021:
The imposition of new restrictions every now and then by Assam Rifles on transportation of goods along the Imphal-Moreh road has left the drivers and local business in dire straits.
Speaking to media persons, local TATA DI drivers alleged that imposition of restriction on transportation of goods along the highway by Assam Rifles at a time when the people have been suffering due to COVID-19 pandemic has left the drivers and local business in deplorable condition with no viable option.
The drivers also alleged that the 20 AR stationed at Khudengthabi Check Post has been imposing various restrictions on transportation of goods especially to the TATA DI drivers.

Earlier, a TATA DI vehicle was reportedly allowed to carry about 50/60 bags of essential goods including onion, garlic, dal, etc.
Now it has been allegedly reduced to a maximum of 40 bags per vehicle.
Restrictions have also been imposed on transportation of various electronic items, cosmetics, soaps, fruits, etc.
While expressing their anguish over the imposition of various norms by the Assam Rifles stated, the drivers mentioned that there is no point in transporting just 40 bags of goods and urged the Government to provide them an alternate means of income.
They also claimed that different forms of taxes have been collected at various locations along the Highway by police, commando and others.
The drivers further appealed to the State Government to look into the matter at the earliest in the interest of the people who are already suffering due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
