Sports need to be institutionalised: Somayang Ngakuimiza

Expressing concern over the acute lack of sporting infrastructures and opportunities for aspiring young sportspersons, BJP intending candidate for 44-Ukhrul AC Asai Somayang Ngakuimiza said that there's a growing need for institutionalization of sports in the district.
"Sport is a professional path for young aspiring athletes and more than ever it is offering a bright future for young aspiring athletes.
For this, both the state and community need to work out ways for its institutionalisation," Ngakuimiza said while speaking as the chief guest of the closing ceremony of the Tangkhul Open Mens Volleyball Tournament 2021 at Tashar village on December 10.He continued that women should also be encouraged to participate in such sporting competitions in future, adding that the community needs to explore corporate sponsorship for such events with state government support.
Giving a message to the youth, Ngakhuimiza exhorted the young participants to stay focused on their calling, stating that everyone has potentials though in varied nature.
"You need to discover your talents yourselves in the pursuit of life and happiness," reminding the youngsters that there's always an option for everyone in life no matter how harsh the situation might be.
Lauding Tashar Katamnao Long (TKL) for organising the sporting competition, he said "Tashar is one of the biggest villages in Ukhrul district and can greatly contribute to Tangkhul community and Manipur in the likes of this event and others" .
To achieve such goals, the society only needs vision and concerted efforts, he said.
In the final match, Tashar Katamnao Long defeated Ramrei Katamnao Long 3-2.The host team walked away with a cash prize of Rs 50,000, while the runners up received a cash prize of Rs 20,000.A total of nine teams from across the district participated in the competition which commenced on December 7 .
