ASHA union asks Govt to provide entitlements

All Manipur ASHA Workers' Union general secretary Ak Thoibi has said that ASHA workers of the state should get the same facility their colleagues in other states are enjoying as the union is affiliated to All India ASHA Federation.
Briefing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday, Ak Thoibi said that qualified ASHA workers of other states have been promoted but all ASHA workers in the state continue to serve people without promotion since the year 2006.A memorandum in this regard had been submitted to health director but no positive action is forthcoming till date, she added.
Apart from demanding promotion of ASHA workers, Ak Thoibi said that ASHA workers who had worked for at least ten years and those who possess training certificate for Module 1 to 7 should be considered for promotion.
She also urged the government to start release of state's share of incentive amounting Rs 1,000 for each of the ASHA worker already approved by the state cabinet.
On the other-hand, All Manipur Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) Workers' Union convened its general body meet on Saturday at Irawat Bhawan here and formed a 13-member executive council with Th Purnimasi Devi as president, W Rita Devi as vice president, O Pramodini as general secretary and K Sanah-anbi Devi as treasurer.
AITUC general secretary L Sotinkumar, secretary A Saratchandra, executive members Th Suresh and Ng Jotil Singh spoke at the general body which was presided over by Th Purnimasi Devi and had an interaction programme on the theme of 'Role of ASHA workers'.
The general body meet also appointed delegate members for the 16th state conference of AITUC.
