Imphal, December 11 2021:
In support of ongoing agitation being launched by Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) for sending the mandatory recommendation for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list of Indian Constitution, Social Workers' Club, Heirarigoithong in coordination with Women Coordination Committee staged a sit-in-protest at Heirangoithong Nupi Keithel on Saturday.
During the protest, ST-DCM general secretary K Bhogendrajit said that the state government must send the recommendation to the Central government for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list before enforcement of election code of conduct.
The committee has been launching different forms of democratic agitations for ensuring ST status of Meetei/Meitei but the government remains indifferent and this indeed hurts the committee, he said and urged the state government to take the matter seriously and send the recommendation at the earliest.
Bhogendrajit also announced that STDCM will hold a public convention at Ima Khunthokhanbi Shanglen on December 16 if the government remains silent on the demand.
The pubpc convention will take decision on the next course of agitation to be launched, he revealed.
