Body formed to protect indigenes' identity

Imphal, December 11 2021:
With an objective to protect identity, geo-political, social, cultural and economic interest of indigenous people of Manipur, a new organisation christened Indigenous People's Alliance Manipur (IPAM) has been formed.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club on Saturday, IPAM ad-hoc committee convenor Worthing Mahung recalled that Co-ordinating Committee on Indigenous People organised a meeting on
December 4 .
The meeting was attended by AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai, Indira Gandhi Tribal University Manipur associate professor Dr Homen Thangjam, All Manipur Tribal Union advisor Ramthing Hungyo and various scholars and public leaders from both hills and valley districts of the state, he informed.
During the meeting, four resolutions were adopted including formation Indigenous People's Alliance Manipur to uphold varied interests of the indigenes of Manipur.
It also resolved to appoint Worthington Mahung as IPAM adhoc committee convenor; L Ibomcha, Ngatangmi Hungyo, Gainithoi Gonmei and Ksh Suraj Meetei as co-convenors, Nongmaithem Chingkaba as publicity secretary and Th Gunachandra, Samson Keishing and Mathiupuang Gonmei as advisory committee members.
The meeting also resolved to submit a memorandum to chief minister N Biren demanding implementation of NRC Act at the earliest and to make the political parties incorporate pledge for implementation of Indigenous Peoples' Bill 2022 in their election manifestos, Worthing Mahung informed, while urging those who win the upcoming assembly election to honour resolutions of the meeting.
